In a recent notification, the Central Government granted infrastructure status to data centers with over 5 megawatts of IT load capacity. This development enables data center companies access institutional credit at lower rates and attract foreign investments. The inclusion of data centers in the harmonized list of infrastructure in the Union Budget 2022-23 further emphasizes their significance.
India currently has approximately 499 MW of installed power capacity for data centers, projected to reach 1007 MW by 2023. India has a vision of becoming a global data center hub, promoting investment in the sector, driving digital economy growth, facilitating trusted hosting infrastructure, and enabling state-of-the-art service delivery to citizens.
